Maple Apple Pork Chops
Tender apples, caramelized onions, and juicy pork chops come together in one skillet under a glossy maple-Dijon sauce.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless or bone-in pork chops
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter, divided
- 2 crisp apples, cored and thinly sliced
- 1/2 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup apple cider or apple juice
- 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Directions
- Pat pork chops dry and season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter in a skillet over medium-high. Cook pork 3 to 5 minutes per side; transfer to a plate.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add remaining butter, apples, and onion and cook about 5 minutes.
- Stir together cider, maple syrup, Dijon, and thyme and pour into the skillet.
- Simmer 3 to 4 minutes, scraping up the browned bits.
- Return pork and juices to the skillet. Cook until sauce thickens and pork reaches 145°F.
- Rest pork 3 minutes before serving with apples and sauce.
OCW Kitchen Tip: Do not overcrowd the skillet. Giving the chops room develops a golden crust instead of steaming them.
