A safe Halloween is a fun Halloween. Keep these in mind on trick-or-treat night.
Choose bright costumes or add reflective tape so drivers can spot trick-or-treaters after dark.
Carry a flashlight or glow stick when walking the neighborhood at night.
Trick-or-treat in groups with a trusted adult. Younger kids should always have grown-up supervision.
Stay on sidewalks and paths, cross streets at corners, and never dart out between parked cars.
Have a parent look over all treats before eating. Toss anything unwrapped, homemade from strangers, or suspicious.
Visit houses with porch lights on. A dark porch means they are not expecting trick-or-treaters.
Watch for excited kids in neighborhoods on Halloween night and drive extra slow.
Choose face paint over masks when you can. Masks can block vision, and drivers need to see trick-or-treaters clearly.
Plan your trick-or-treat route ahead of time and stick to familiar, well-lit neighborhoods.
